Nothing Gold Can Stay
A photo sequence inspired by the poem 'Nothing Gold Can Stay' by Robert Frost.
I was inspired by the themes of the transience of youth and beauty and how in our society, a woman’s value decreases once these things are gone. I took inspiration from young women characters that die young and how they are idealised and romanticised because they died while young and beautiful - still in their “prime”. Ophelia from Hamlet was one such character I took influence from and specifically the painting by John Everett Millais.
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
Then Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing gold can stay.
